Conclusion: Building Your MDM Roadmap

Larry Dubov explains how your MDM roadmap can guide your initiative
In this series of blog posts, we focused on the importance of an MDM roadmap. (Be sure to review any posts you may have missed.)
We explained why the MDM business case and roadmap should be considered together. The MDM roadmap defines the evolution of MDM and critical architectural and organizational decisions that impact the MDM initiative’s cost, risk, risk mitigation strategies, and ultimately the ROI and NPV.
We have identified twenty MDM roadmap domains and described each of them in detail, with suggestions and guidance for their optimal use.
Each of these domains must be considered initially when an MDM initiative is planned and then reviewed periodically as the program evolves. The twenty MDM domains we have defined provide a comprehensive view of the most critical MDM areas.
After reviewing these domains prior to beginning your MDM implementation, you should periodically review and refine your assessment as needed. Doing so can significantly help the success of your MDM program.
Also, the relative importance of the domains varies from one MDM engagement to another. Even within an MDM program, the priority of the domains can change as the program evolves.
Throughout the process, open communication among all stakeholders will make your initiative run more smoothly.
