The Children's Hospital is able to better serve its patients

Located in the Denver area, The Children’s Hospital is a private, not-for-profit pediatric healthcare network with medical programs and specialists who are consistently ranked among the very best. Children’s provides care to the region at its main campus and through a network of care, including four community-based urgent and emergency care sites and seven specialty-care centers providing principally rehabilitation services.

Challenge
Reduce duplicate records and establish an Enterprise Master Person Index (EMPI) to help increase patient safety and maximize care.

Hospital administrators and IS staff wanted to significantly reduce the number of duplicate patient records, upgrade their legacy systems to include more comprehensive integration among several systems and establish an Enterprise Master Person Index (EMPI).

Children’s legacy patient search tools lacked the advanced algorithms necessary to quickly and accurately identify established patients. They needed a system that could help eliminate errors that occurred in the registration process and form a tighter integration with their existing applications.

“We wanted to dramatically cut back on our duplicates to facilitate patient care,” notes Sharon Dody, project manager for Children’s. “Duplicate records reduce the efficiency of our staff, potentially reduce the quality of patient care and increase the time it takes for our medical records staff to update information.”

Initiate Systems worked with Children’s to establish an EMPI with multiple benefits:
